Whispering Pines, NC

Whispering Pines is a village built for recreation: six lakes, 36 holes at the Country Club of Whispering Pines, and wooded residential streets that give every lot a little privacy. Established in 1959 and incorporated in 1969, it was planned from the start as a golf-and-water community. For buyers it offers lakefront and golf-front living at prices softer than the resort villages to the east.

What it's like to live here

A town with a point of view.

The country club anchors the village: a 36-hole layout split between the Pines and the River courses, with the clubhouse overlooking the water. Homes sit set back among longleaf stands, many on larger lots, and daily life is measured in canoe launches, golf-cart rides, and lake sunsets. It is a quieter flavor of Sandhills life, and devoted residents prefer it that way.

Whispering Pines skews toward empty-nester and retiree buyers, plus families who want space and recreation without the resort crowds. West Pine schools serve the area on the road to Pinecrest High. And while the village keeps its own counsel, it is only a short drive from the shops and restaurants of Southern Pines and Pinehurst.
